Oregon recreational marijuana sales are set to begin in medical marijuana dispensaries on October 1, 2015

In Oregon, pot is completely legal right now. You can grow it. You can smoke it. You can eat, vape, or dab it. However, until now you could only buy marijuana as a patient of a medicinal dispensary. A friend might share a joint with you, but an average Joe couldn’t buy marijuana.

However, the rules are about to change. On October 1st, Oregon will usher in a new era when adults over 21 years of age with valid ID will be able to purchase up to seven grams of dried flower marijuana, as well as up to four clones or seeds as recreational customers of existing medical marijuana dispensaries.

Oregon Legislature passed a bill signed by Oregon Governor Kate Brown in June that would allow limited recreational marijuana sales via existing medical marijuana dispensaries. Additionally, sales of marijuana topicals, edibles, and concentrates are expected to begin in 2016, when independent recreational marijuana stores are set to open.

According to a recent Bloomberg Politics poll*, fifty-eight percent of U.S. adults say recreational marijuana will be legal nationwide in the next 20 years. That reality is already here in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, which have legalized the recreational use of marijuana. While voters in Nevada, Maine, Massachusetts, Arizona, and California are poised to follow suit in 2016.

This is great news for those watching the cannabis market and looking for positive signs of long-term growth.
